Skincare Myth: Oily Skin Doesn’t Need Moisturizing – BUSTED!

Let’s talk about one of the most common skincare myths I come across at pop-ups: the idea that if you have oily skin, you don’t need to moisturise.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been chatting with customers about their skincare routine, and they casually drop the bombshell, "Oh, I don’t really moisturise." I stand there, stunned, like how?! what?! why?! 😲 It’s truly one of those moments where I just can’t hide my shock!

Here’s why that’s a problem: the biggest mistake people with oily or combination skin make is thinking they need to strip their skin of all oils during cleansing and then skip moisturising entirely. It’s as if their skin is shampooed like hair, and then they just go about their day bare faced. The truth is, stripping your skin of its natural oils only makes it produce more oil to compensate. Skipping moisturiser leaves your skin unprotected and out of balance.

What’s Really Happening with Your Skin?

When you strip your skin’s natural oils, you’re disrupting its natural moisture barrier, and that can lead to overproduction of oil. Many people with oily skin think they’re doing the right thing by avoiding any added moisture, but they’re actually triggering their skin to become oilier.

Moisturising isn’t the enemy of oily skin—it’s the solution! The goal isn’t to dry your skin out but to balance it.

The Right Routine for Oily Skin

So, what should you do if you have oily or combination skin? Here’s how to care for your skin without causing more oiliness:

1. Cleanse the Right Way
Start with a gentle cleanser that works for your skin type. Choose one that won’t strip your skin completely, like an oil, cream, gel, or foam cleanser. (Just no harsh detergents, please!) My go-to recommendation is our **Jojoba Oil Face Cleanser**—it effectively cleanses without over-drying or leaving your skin feeling tight.

2. Hydrate & Moisturise
After cleansing, follow up with hydration. A floral water mist is perfect for refreshing your skin after cleansing—something like our Moroccan Orange Blossom Water. Then, apply a lightweight moisturiser or a face oil specifically formulated for oily skin. If you’re worried about using oil on oily skin, trust me—our Argan, Prickly Pear & 24K Gold Face Oil is perfect. It helps balance oil production without clogging pores and gives your skin a gorgeous glow.

3. Keep Your Skin Balanced, Not Bare
Here’s the truth: washing your face and then skipping moisturiser is like leaving the house without clothes on. Your skin needs that final layer of protection to stay healthy and balanced.

The Bottom Line

Skipping moisturiser is one of the worst things you can do for oily skin. Instead of trying to dry out your skin, focus on finding products that balance oil production while keeping your skin hydrated. That’s the key to healthy, glowing skin - even if you tend to be on the oily side.

So next time you’re tempted to skip moisturising, remember: your skin isn’t a "wash and go" situation. It needs care, hydration, and a little TLC to stay balanced and beautiful. 💚
