Facials: Are They Really Just a “Treat”?

Facials: Are They Really Just a “Treat”?

Let’s talk facials. Not the fluffy, once-in-a-blue-moon kind we book for birthdays or weddings (though those are lovely too), but the kind that actually make a difference to your skin.

It’s surprising how many women in the UK only get a facial a few times in their entire life, usually for a birthday, celebration, or their wedding day. And I get it. Between busy schedules, budgets, and skincare overwhelm, facials often get pushed into the “luxury” category. But if done right, they can be one of the best things you do for your skin.

That said, there’s nothing worse than booking a facial, spending your hard-earned money, and leaving feeling… underwhelmed. I’ve been there. So here’s a simple guide to what’s out there and how to choose the right facial depending on what your skin needs (or what occasion you’re prepping for!).

The Main Types of Facials (and Why You Might Want One)

 Maintenance Facial
Perfect for regular skin upkeep. Expect a cleanse, steam, exfoliation, extractions, massage and maybe some light machinery. Great if your skin just needs a bit of support.

Pampering Facial
This is the one to book when your soul needs soothing. Lots of massage, masks and serums that deeply hydrate and leave your skin feeling plump and refreshed. Less about “treatment,” more about relaxation and glow.

Cleansing Facial
Ideal if your skin feels congested. These facials focus on clay masks, steam, gentle exfoliation and (usually) extractions to help clear out your pores.

Acne Facial
Deep cleanse, exfoliation, calming masks, high-frequency treatment—this type is perfect for breakouts or acne-prone skin.

Planning for a Wedding or Celebration? Read This First…

If you’re getting married (congrats if you are!), start facials at least 4 months before your big day, 6 months if you can. Begin with a couple of maintenance facials spaced out about 6 weeks apart. Then book a gentle pampering facial 2–3 days before the wedding.

Avoid anything invasive before the big day, no extractions, machinery, or treatments you haven’t tried before. And definitely no last-minute peels. You don’t want to walk down the aisle with redness or unexpected reactions.

Got a special celebration coming up? A pampering facial is your best friend. Go for something with plenty of hydration—masks, massage and serums that will leave your skin bouncy and glowing for a couple of days. Skip the steam and extractions this time, this is not the moment to battle that stubborn spot.

A Natural Boost at Home

If you’re like me and love a good DIY skincare session, or simply want something clean and nourishing in between spa visits, I always recommend our Moroccan Face Mask range:

  • The Moroccan Ghassoul Clay Mask

  • The Moroccan Rose & Ghassoul Clay Mask

  • The Saharan Indigo & Ghassoul Clay Mask

They’re made with natural, mineral-rich ingredients that help detox, balance and brighten the skin—bringing a bit of the spa to your bathroom, minus the price tag.

Facials don’t have to be reserved for rare occasions. Whether you’re prepping for your big day or just want to give your skin a little TLC, the right facial can be transformative—not just for your skin, but for your confidence too.

Have you had a facial that changed your skin? Or one that was a total letdown?  Let’s make facials less of a treat and more of a regular ritual 💛
